The Washington State Paint Horse Club is the oldest Paint Horse Club in Washington.

The clubs first meeting was on May 4, 1968, in the Kiwanis Meeting Hall in Issaquah, WA.

This meeting was a result of the efforts of Karen Ulvestad, Ann McMahan, Joan Haggett,

Sharon Mack and Howard and Maxine Yeager and was attended by twenty paint horse enthusiasts.

In 1969, an award system was set up and in November of that same year, the

Paint Horse Breed was accepted by Washington State Horseman as one of their Breed Divisions;

thus becoming eligible for their year end high score awards.

On August 31, 1969, WSPHC held their first APHA approved Paint Horse Show at Mar’s Stables in Puyallup, WA. It was attended by Paint Horses from all over Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

The next year their show, the WSPHC Paint Royal, was held at The Trails in Olympia, WA,

and was an “A” rated show. In 1994, WSPHC Star Spangled Classic hosted the first

Washington Bred Weanling Futurities.

For several years the WSPHC has sponsored one of the High Point Awards at the

Zone One Zone-O-Rama Show and did so again in 2011.
